About
ABOUT JUNDOKAN HK
Jundokan Hong Kong is an official branch of the Jundokan So-Honbu Dojo in Okinawa, Japan.
The So-Honbu (総本部 / headquarter) Dojo was founded by Eiichi Miyazato, a senior student of Chojun Miyagi, the founder of Goju-ryu (剛柔流).
Goju-ryu, "hard-soft style" in Japanese, is one of the main traditional Okinawan styles of karate, featuring a combination of hard and soft techniques. These techniques come from the famous martial arts book (Bubishi / 武備志) used by Okinawan masters during the 19th and 20th centuries.
It implements soft circular blocking techniques in combination with powerful counter-strikes, such as kicks and close hand punches with softer open hand circular techniques for attacking, blocking, and controlling the opponent, including joint locks, grappling, take-downs, and throws.
Our dojo places strong emphasis on traditional techniques taught by the great masters. We focus on Kihon (基本 / basic), Kata (型 / a series of standardized movements or forms) and Bunkai (分解 / breaking down kata to analyse each elements/techniques). We also practice Hojo Undo (補助運動 / supplementary exercise with tools). Majority of karate dojo in Hong Kong are teaching Sundome rules only (寸止め / stopping a technique just prior to contact), but we can practice both dynamic sports karate (light touch) and traditional karate passing on knowledge from Chojun Miyagi sensei.
Ranking examinations are done every 3-4 months for qualified members. Members can participate in karate competitions held inside and outside of HK every year. Members can also practice at the So-Honbu Dojo in Okinawa or participate in the Jundokan international seminars overseas.

***Children's and Youth Classes Now Recruiting New Students***
Karate education can cultivate excellent character traits in children. In Japan, karate classes for preschool children are part of life education, helping to cultivate resilience, obedience, courtesy, and a sense of honor—collectively known as excellent character traits.
Karate is a full-body offensive and defensive skill. It teaches children and teenagers how to use their bodies effectively to protect themselves from external forces, and cultivates composure and confidence through practice.
The course provides safe and fun instruction, improves students' physical health, teaches them how to concentrate, and fosters values such as obedience and respect for teachers. Please feel free to contact us if you need further information.
